Vantage Point

Background

The Ecology Foundation was set up by Declan Murphy in 2007.  Declan is from Limerick but now lives in Bergen on the west coast of Norway.  Declan has been instrumental in the establishment of a number of socially-focussed projects in Ireland in conjunction with Bill Cullen.  Declan has formerly been an adviser to Greenpeace in UK and Bellona in Norway.

Polar Bears on Ice

The Ecology Foundation is a private climate group that operates a number of programmes.

Our Position

The Ecology Foundation has set its mission "to reduce Ireland's CO2 emissions whilst at the same time, preserving economic growth." Our view is that the current debate on climate change issues is being misdirected, with many different voices calling for action, without specifying plans for delivering results. The debate must be business friendly, as we feel that the solutions must be implemented in the business world, and currently that is not always true. This is why we feel that a new information source is needed for the climate change debate.

How do we operate?

The Ecology Foundation engages with business, through sponsorship.  We will work with media by providing content and commentary focussed on solutions; with the public through a series of events that will raise the awareness of Climate Change so that the public will play their part, be aware of the bigger infrastructural challenges and the urgency for action.
