| The Ecology Foundation presents vision of Low Carbon Future to the Ireland France Business Community |
|
Thursday February 26, 2009. The Ireland France Chamber of Commerce (IFCC) hosted a business lunch yesterday with guest speaker Declan Murphy, Founder of the Ecology Foundation in Ireland. The event was sponsored by Veolia Environnement, a world leader in environmental services and energy efficiency.
In his speech Declan Murphy painted the vision of a low-carbon future and the distance to target facing Ireland with the recent adoption of the EU2020 measures. Declan also touched upon some of the very latest science emerging concerning the speed and scale of climate change affecting us now. He called for the need for a new generation of scientists and business people to mobilise and address this challenge.
Declan also examined how Ireland would have to become a technology giver and a technology taker in this adaptation race. From the world’s first tidal barrage in La Rance to the preeminent position of French nuclear power, he said that France could play a central role in charting Ireland’s conversion to a low carbon society. The lunch was attended by over 80 business executives in the Ireland France business community from companies such as Veolia Environnement, Alstom, BNP Paribas, Eugene F. Collins and Schneider Electric, all Patrons of the Ireland France Chamber of Commerce.
